The multi-oil approach
KlaroNail’s formula philosophy is built around the concept that nail health — particularly the difficult challenge of maintaining clear, healthy-looking nails — requires multiple simultaneous actions: direct anti-fungal botanical action, skin barrier support, nail plate nourishment, and soothing comfort for the irritated skin around affected nails. No single oil compound accomplishes all of these.
The 13-ingredient formula addresses each dimension with a specifically selected compound: primary actives for nail clarity, soothing oils for skin comfort, nourishing carrier oils for nail and skin structure, and antioxidant protection for cellular health. Understanding the roles these ingredients play helps evaluate whether the KlaroNail formula is genuinely comprehensive or merely a long ingredient list.
Primary actives
Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is the best-studied natural compound in the nail health category. Multiple published clinical studies have evaluated Tea Tree Oil for nail conditions, finding antifungal activity against common nail pathogens in laboratory settings and modest but real clinical benefit in applied research. The mechanism involves disruption of the fungal cell membrane. Undecylenic Acid is a naturally derived fatty acid (from castor oil) with FDA-approved antifungal claims for topical skin use — one of the few natural compounds that carries regulatory recognition for antifungal activity. It inhibits fungal cell wall synthesis and is effective against the dermatophytes that cause most nail infections.
Clove Bud Oil provides eugenol — a phenylpropanoid compound with potent antifungal properties in laboratory studies. Eugenol disrupts fungal cell membranes through a mechanism distinct from Tea Tree’s terpene-based action, providing non-redundant complementary activity. Together, these three compounds create a layered primary antimicrobial approach in the KlaroNail formula.

Lavender Oil provides both antimicrobial support and skin calming through its linalool and linalool acetate content. Lavender has documented activity against dermatophyte fungi in laboratory settings while also providing the anti-inflammatory effects that help reduce redness and irritation around affected nails. Camphor Oil and Menthol together provide the cooling sensation KlaroNail delivers on application. Beyond comfort, camphor improves local microcirculation and has mild antimicrobial properties. Menthol’s cooling action triggers TRPM8 receptors, creating immediate comfort while also contributing mild antifungal activity. Aloe Vera rounds out the soothing group with its well-documented barrier repair and anti-inflammatory properties for irritated skin.
Nourishing carrier oils
The four carrier oils in KlaroNail serve two purposes: creating a suitable delivery vehicle for the essential oil actives, and providing direct nail plate and skin nourishment. Sweet Almond Oil is a light emollient rich in oleic and linoleic acid that softens the skin around nails and penetrates the nail plate to improve flexibility. Flaxseed Oil provides alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) which supports nail plate moisture retention. Walnut Oil contributes polyphenols with antioxidant properties alongside its omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid content. Chia Seed Oil is one of the richest plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids, supporting the nail plate’s lipid barrier.
Barrier and antioxidant support
Manuka Honey from New Zealand is included for its well-documented skin barrier properties. Manuka’s unique methylglyoxal (MGO) content gives it antibacterial activity significantly stronger than conventional honey. For skin around nails, Manuka Honey supports the skin’s natural microbiome balance, promotes barrier repair, and provides deep moisturisation that helps prevent the cracking and dryness that allows reinfection. Vitamin E (tocopherol) is the formula’s dedicated antioxidant. Applied topically, Vitamin E protects skin and nail cells from oxidative damage, supports cellular membrane integrity, and improves nail flexibility — contributing to a healthier, smoother nail surface over consistent daily use.
